Daniel Menna
Daniel Menna began composing at the age of 15. During his schooltime at the «Gymnasium Bern Neufeld» he sang in the school choir and played the trombone in the school orchester, becoming acquainted with modern and contemporary music (e.g. with works by Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Goffredo Petrassi, Charles E. Ives, David Bedford, Daniel Glaus). Several works by Daniel Menna were performed during his schooltime, among which two concert pieces (for clarinet respectively trombone and orchestra), an ochestral piece and different pieces of chamber music.
In 1990, Daniel Menna decided not to study music, but italian and german literature and linguistics. During the following decade, he continued to compose, trying to improve his skills and to find his own musical idiom. He composed several study works, among which an symphonietta, a concert piece for piano and orchestra and a symphony in four mouvements.
