Jorge García del Valle MéndezBIOGRAPHYJorge García del Valle Méndez was born in Bad-Säckingen, Germany in 1966, but grew up in Spain. His musical education began in Spain at the "Pablo Sarasate" Conservatory of Music in Pamplona, with emphases in Bassoon, taught by José Javier Sánchez Olaso and Musical Composition, taught by María Dolores Malumbres.
Since 1996 Jorge García del Valle Méndez has lived in Dresden, Germany and studied at the "Carl Maria von Weber" Conservatory of Music. His main studies included Bassoon under Wolfgang Liebscher and Mario Hendel, Musical Composition under Jörg Herchet and Electronic Music under Wilfried Jentzsch. He also took part in additional bassoon courses under Milan Turcoviç and Gustavo Núñez and composition courses under professors Luis de Pablo, José Manuel López, Mario Lavista, Leo Brower, George Benjamin, Ludger Brümmer, Hans Tutschku, Orm Finnendahl, Gilles Gobeil, Beat Furrer, Brian Ferneyhough und Helmut Lachenmann. He finished his studies in 2002.
His first public performances as a Bassoonist were in the areas of Solo and Chamber music with an emphasis on contemporary music.
His compositions comprise several areas of music: Solo, Chamber Ensemble, Orchestra and Electronic Music which have been performed in various European countries. He frequently receives commissions from various Spanish and German institutions. Some of his more well-known works include: "Augenstrauß" for Bassoon and Orchestra in which he performed the solo part of the Bassoon, "Babel" for 13 Strings performed in Spain and Germany, "An Anna Blume" for 16 Solo voices and Live-Electronic, a commission for the ensemble "Vocal Modern" and recorded on MDR-Radio and "Du, Deiner, Dich, Dir" for 4-Channel-Tape, performed in 2005 in the "next generation" Festival of the ZKM. His Portrait Concert of the Composer with works for chamber ensemble and electronics took place in 2004 in Logroño, Spain.
Through electronic music he became interested in digital analysis and sound processing, which he has applied to his theoretical works as well as his musical compositions. His article over digital analysis in Bassoon multi-phonics and their sound possibilities in the application to contemporary music has been published in the woodwind music magazine "Rohrblatt".
In 2005 Jorge García del Valle Méndez was scholarship holder of the "Kulturstiftung Sachsen". With this support he composed the work "I dream you dreamed about me" for chamber ensemble. The Orchester Sinfonietta Dresden presented this work in November 2005 for the first time.
His composition "seok yang jong" for violin, violoncello, piano and tape was awarded second prize in the 2006 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award Competition of the University of Illinois (USA). He also won in 2006 the first prize in the 4th Composition Award of the Sächsischer Musikrat (Germany) with the work "Wutpunkt" for large orchestra. This work was premiered in November 2008 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig (Germany).
He also made in 2006 the soundtracks for three documentaries of the University of Dresden, which were premiered in Germany, Sweden and England.
In 2007 he received a commission of the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden for a multichannel electronic work. This work was premiered in November 2008 at the inauguration of the new concert hall of this Hochschule.
Nowadays he is preparing concerts in Germany, London, Paris, New York and Tokio. |
